NewsBeauty Written by NewsBeauty  ·  @newsbeauty3

Knotless braids are a significant investment of both time and money. Before you book, you want to know what you're paying for — and whether the price you're seeing is reasonable for the size, length, and style you want. Here's a full breakdown of what knotless braids cost in Massachusetts in 2025, and what drives those numbers.

"From" pricing

These are starting prices. Your total depends on your desired length, hair thickness, style complexity, and whether you bring your own extension hair or use ours. Contact us before booking for a specific quote.

What the "From" Price Includes

  • Full knotless braid installation by our lead stylist
  • Sectioning and parting
  • Consultation on size and style before we begin

It does not include extension hair unless agreed in advance. Most clients bring their own braiding hair — we can advise on brand, quantity, and color when you book. We also carry X-pression, Ruwa, and pre-stretched braiding hair in our beauty supply if you need to pick some up before your appointment.

What Affects the Final Price

Length

The single biggest variable after braid size. Mid-back or waist-length installs use significantly more extension hair and add time. Expect a higher quote for anything below the shoulder blades.

Hair thickness

Very thick, dense natural hair requires more careful sectioning and may add time to the install. This can affect the final price for longer appointments.

Style variation

  • Boho / goddess braids — curly extension pieces mixed in throughout adds both material and time
  • Triangle or specialty parts — more complex parting patterns add time
  • Ombre or color braids — preparation of the extension hair adds a small amount to install time

Extension hair

If you're using extension hair from our beauty supply, the hair cost is separate from the install price. X-pression and Ruwa typically run $3–8 per pack depending on the brand; most installs use 5–8 packs.

Is This Reasonable for Massachusetts?

Yes. For context, knotless braids in the Greater Boston area typically run:

  • Jumbo: $150–$250
  • Medium: $175–$350
  • Small: $220–$450+

Pricing varies by salon, stylist experience, and location. Our rates sit in the mid-range for the metro Boston area while reflecting the skill and time involved in a proper knotless braid install.

Why Knotless Braids Cost More Than Traditional Box Braids

This question comes up regularly. The short answer: time.

Traditional box braids start with a knot at the root — the stylist folds the extension hair over the natural hair and secures it at the base in one motion. Fast and efficient. Knotless braids start with just the natural hair, then add extension hair gradually in small amounts as the braid grows down. Each braid requires more passes and more precision. An install that takes 3 hours in traditional braids might take 5–6 hours knotless. That time difference is what you're paying for.

The benefit of the technique — no tension knot at the root, a more natural look, less scalp stress — is what makes the price worth it for most clients.

Deposit and Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before the appointment. Same-day cancellations and no-shows forfeit the deposit.
